The 5 Purposes of Government

1.) The Protection of Rights

Government protects your life, liberty, and property.
The government has to protect your right to live (life), your freedoms through laws (liberty), and protections of your house and valuables (property).
Ex. Bill of Rights (protects your everything)

2.) Resolving Conflict

Government has created laws and rules to help people in society get along better.
The government solves problems in a peaceful solution rather than having people in society solve them which will create chaos.
Ex. Egypt conflict (people have revolted against their leader)

3.) Providing Public Services

Government provides services that make community life possible and create general welfare.
The government has services that help people in society live easier
Ex. CTA buses, PACE trains, Post office

4.) Providing a Common Defense

Government defends the nation against foreign enemies.
The government has established (created) the army, navy, marines, coast guard, and air force to help protect the nation.
Ex. World War II, Iraq War

5.) Making Economic Decisions

Government makes choices that wil most benefit (help) people in their nation.
The Government helps their nation get the best they can get since the government cant provide all the needs and wants.
Ex. Government can tell a farmer what to plant, or encourage trade.
